 The paper considers traditional representations of East Slavic ethnoses about foreigners in the light of inter-ethnic communications. The folk-tale fund of the East Slavic ethnoses of Siberia and the Far East was chosen as the material for the study, namely, fairy tales and everyday tales recorded during the period about a hundred years (the 1st third of the 19th — the 1st third of the 20th century). The novelty of the research is that for the first time a complex of traditional representations of Russians, Ukrainians and Belarusians about foreigners is described as exemplified in the material of the fantastic folklore fund of Siberia and the Far East. The research is actual both in the theoretical and in the practical sense: for the first, interaction and mutual enrichment of such areas of the humanities as folklore and ethno-psychology are important, for the second, the identification of the original set of ideas about other nations, the reasons for its formation in the past and preservation in the present. The fairy-tale folklore fund has preserved the traditional complex of representations of the East Slavic peoples about foreigners up to nowadays as a result of inter-ethnic communications. Stereotypical ideas about foreigners arose on their basis, which in turn made a significant influence and verbal art. A set of foreigner’s signs are revealed: nationality is a sign of males predominantly and nationality as a character’s sign that is not always stable. The conceptual row of a foreigner consists of some components that are relevant to communication: it indicates presence of predominantly inherent relationships, belonging to categories of one’s own versus alien sphere. This article will be useful for further research in the field of psychology of folklore and ethnicity nomination.
