The article deals with the Russian late spiritual verse “In the glorious in Yaroslavl’ the town…”, which became famous due to publication in P. A. Bessonov’s collection “Kaleki perekhozhie” (“Vagrant Cripples”), accompanied with his research. This spiritual verse has been republished in multiply contemporary anthologies of spiritual verses. Its content corresponds with the hagiography of the holy prince Theodor Rostislavovich (the Black), whose hallows were glorified in Yaroslavl’ area in the 15th century and hereafter have been worshiped there and outside Yaroslavl’ region as well. Episodes of this spiritual verse and their most important details were analyzed in comparison with the hagiography texts about the prince, which were written in different time. The author has noticed that this verse contains some common places which are very typical of its genre. They mitigate contradictions in evaluation of prince’s activity which are guessed in historical sources. The scene, which describes the prince as a grieving widower, who has been consoled by the Holy Mother of God and her words, is more important for the idea of the verse. It provides confirmation to the status of the holy prince as a patron of family which was actually regnant among believers. Correlation of the main episodes of the spiritual verse with some facts from the history of glorification of the Yaroslavl’ shrines allows to specify the question of the time of its composition and to date it from not earlier than the second quarter of the 19th century. Besides of it the author supposes the local character of this spiritual verse and the straight connection of its genesis with the Yaroslavl’ lands.
