Body

The article presents analysis of spoken religious prose associated with the Solovetskiy monastery which has been used as a prison during the Soviet period. The texts were collected from Arkhangel’sk residents in 2007–2015. The analyzed texts belong to different genres, but local legends are the majority of them. We select thematic ranges as follows:“Monastery’s History”, “Miracles, that happen at the Sacred place” (with motifs of person’s healing during her or his visit to the monastery, retrieval of weather after appeal to the Saints or a pledge, appearance of a holy thing, of miraculous signs or omens, establishing of local sacred place), punishment for impiety. There in modern folklore telling and speaking practics of residents of Arkhangel’sk the city narratives about Solovetskie mi-
racles appear among highly educated population groups and are related with the culture of church sphere. Both old plots and those related with the period of the newest history appear in the corpus of Solovetskie narratives. Monastery and prison plots interact mutually. Part of texts may be qualified as hyper-texts, arisen on the juncture of oral and literature traditions. Spoken stories about the Solovetskie Islands reflect both national and local identity of the Arkhangel’sk inhabitants who consider the Solovetskiy monastery history to be a part of their local history.
