The loon’s mythological type in the traditional Dolgan art

The article considers a loon’s mythological type in the traditional Dolgan notions. The loon’s cosmogonetic type received a bright reflection in the decorative Dolgan traditions. The metallic pendants as ornithomorphic figures on a shaman costume and reindeer harness have the intricate system of symbols that is connected with the cult of sacral bird. The comparative material shows that the loon’s type is a widespread motif in the decorative traditions of the other Siberian peoples, too.
