The article presents the history of collecting and publication of Russian folk tales on the territory of present-day Karelia (second half of 19th — the beginning of 21th century). Many folk tales were published in numerous anthologies, compiled by researches from Moscow, St. Petersburg (Leningrad) and Petrozavodsk over a number of years . They are analyzed in this paper, along with unpublished collections stored in the Scientific Archives of the Karelian Research Centre of Russian Academy of Sciences.
