Body

This article explores the relationship between folk tales and the traditional everyday culture of the Komi people. Special attention is given to the methodology of V. Ya. Propp, who examined folk tales through the lens of ethnography. The study establishes that Komi folk tales’ stylistic ritualization was shaped by cultural and everyday elements such as historical 59К 130-ЛЕТИЮ В. Я. ПРОППА beliefs, customs, and traditions. As a specific manifestation of folk art, many fairy tale formulas, genetically linked to everyday phenomena, emerged from various ethnographic substrates. However, if in archaic art some of the ancient beliefs reflected in Komi traditional formulas were most likely connected with some specific aspects of rituals and customs, their echoes in modern fairytale stereotypes have acquired the features of a formal poetic technique and serve aesthetic functions.
