Sacred addressee and secular addresser. Notes to the saints as a means of desires fulfillment

The article discusses the practice of writing notes to saints in places of their worship. Such practice becomes widespread in contemporary Russia. The analysis of the ritual in three sacred places shows how this practice is originated under the influence of internal and external factors. In both cases, the vocabulary and syntax of such notes indicate the practice secularization and notes transformation from the letters addressed to saints to the instrument of wish fulfillment.
