Body

Folklore drama “Tsar Maksimilian” was widely spread in Russia in the end of the 19th —  the beginning of the 20th century. But recording of textual materials on folk theatre was not regular. So we have not too many texts of “Tsar Maksimilian”. In aspect of recordings, this drama is in favorable situation at the European North of Russia, because collectors have recorded folk drama specimens there repeatedly, in the middle of the 20th century even purposefully. But we haven’t found evidences of existence of the drama at the basin of Pechora the river. Revelation of folklorists from Syktyvkar let us to affirm that drama has been performed there. The text was discovered in archive of the Komi Republic National Museum from the collection of manuscript folklore materials, recorded in 1910s —  1930s from Komi and Russian residents of Komi Republic and Komi-Permyatskiy autonomous region. Drama was recorded by an amateur collector N. A. Terent’ev. Obviously it was such an interesting phenomenon of local culture, that the collector, who had observed the performance, decided to write it down, as he has admitted, “from his own memory”. So this publication introduces one more variant of folklore drama “Tsar Maksimilian” into scholarly practice. Text is accompanied with a foreword and comments.
