The work was carried out within the framework of the planned research topic (No. 121051400044-2).
This article is devoted to the problem of constructing rituals and collective social traditions in the Soviet and post-Soviet periods. It presents materials from the beginning of the twenty-first century, recorded among the Russian population of the factory settlement Kazhym of Koigorodsky district (Komi Republic). The settlement was established after the discovery of iron ore here in the mid-eighteenth century. The author analyzes the holiday culture of the springsummer cycle, particularly Neptune’s Day. It considers the reasons for the holiday’s appearance in local culture; how it was established; its form during the last third of the twentieth century; the mechanisms of its re-activation in the beginning of the twenty-first century, and the perception of this holiday by informants of different ages. Attention is paid to the actions taken by residents to promote the holiday, by representatives of cultural and leisure institutions and by the settlements administration.
