Body

The paper offers a way of developing software for regional folklore studies. This has been done on the basis of collected and systematized material from ethnographic expeditions of Mari State University’s students to different parts of Mari El Republic in the second half of the 20th century and the turn of the 21st century. The information-analytical environment is organized as two levels in relevance to the character of the material, a degree of its preservation, its scientific and social importance. The first level is the database for folklore studies in the form of a digital resource. The second level is the database in the form of a virtual folklore museum. The paper displays general peculiarities of creating the content (the scientific approach to collection making) and specific peculiarities of creating the content (on the second level of the database there are elements that can promote commercial usage of folklore material while presenting it to tourists). Significant attention is paid to the presentation of the material. One mentions a high technical level, modern design that promotes the status of Russian information resources among young people. The developed virtual information-analytical environment is hosted by the site of Mari State University (http://www.marsu.ru)
