This article reviews publications which report about the life of Russian Old Believers who had moved from Russia to China in the 1920–1930s. During this period Japanese researchers in their papers drew attention to the village of Romanovka. In the 1950s, Old-Believers moved to South America. Currently, many Old-Believers have immigrated to the USA and reside in Oregon state (at Woodburn city). Most of local Old-Believers are priestless “bespopovtsy”. Some of them moved to Alaska, where they founded several settlements (Nikolaevsk and others). A split occurred among them, some groups obtained priests and turned to be “popovtsi”. Russian Old-Believers are employed in agriculture, construction and fishing. Assimilation is deepening among them currently. There in this paper, basic attention has been given to works by foreign researchers. The author analyzes the first publications dealing with Russian emigrants in the USA, provides examples of thesis research conducted by American and studies by Russian scholars. The article points to the importance of materials in the Russian-language émigré press, as well as the publications by Old-Believers themselves. A brief overview is given of the archival collections in the United States and Russia which contain materials on Old-Believers. The author also concentrates on some foreign sources, which can help researchers dealing with the topic of Old-Believers. Importance of internet sources is noted. The paper also draws attention on research that describes the general history of the Russian emigration in America, and the importance of preserving emigrants’ memory and family history. Field studies, done by the author in the United States provide the basis of this paper.
