Chernokryzhik: On interpretation of Northern Russian mythological stories character’s name

The article presents the analysis of the word chernokryzhik — the name of the character of Vologda mythological stories about sorcerer and cannibal. It was found out that the lexeme originated as a result of the words chernoknizhnik and kryzh (Latin cross) contamination.
