Alcohol and traditional culture in the 18th — early 20th centuries (based on Olonets province)

This article examines the major trends associated with development of the scale and the increasing number of situations related to alcohol consumption. The main conclusion of the article lies in the fact that during the 19th century there was a gradual profanation of alcohol. The logical consequence of this process closely associated with urbanization has been the rapid transformation of drinking into an integral part of daily life in Olonets province.
