The article is devoted to the analysis of fairytales with the motif of incest. This motif occupies an insignificant place in the Abkhazian tradition. At the present moment, we know of only two plot types where it occurs. One plot type, corresponding to number 510B in the ATU index, is represented in the Abkhazian tradition in only one instance, recorded, moreover, not in Abkhazia itself, but in an Abkhazian enclave in Turkey. The absence of such texts in the Abkhazian tradition on native territory may indicate that the text recorded by J. Demyuzil developed under the influence of the Turkish tradition. According to the ATU index there do exist some fairytales of this type in the Turkish tradition. Fairytales of the plot type 313E* are presented in the Abkhazian tradition in several variants. In some cases, the incest motif may be absent, but from our point of view this is due to the particular storyteller, for whom incest was unacceptable. It should also be noted that in the plot types under consideration everyday life objects connected with the ritual practices of the Abkhazians occupy a significant place. As in the rites, they perform the function of a protective amulet, a sign and means of uniting various substances.
